Change and Cinderella

I just heard this in an audio sample from Marianne Williamson’s Sacred Dialogue programme:

“We say, OK this is not joyous, and so I want another life, and so we pray for another life.

…We tend to think of it like, ‘This life isn’t good enough, and I want another life to come about.’ Much like the Fairy Godmother saying to Cinderella,

‘We need a coach, and all you have is pumpkins, so I’ll call a car service and order up a limo.’

or

‘That dress you’re wearing is awful, you need a gown to wear to the ball, so I will call up a store and ask them to send over something gorgeous.’

That’s not how miraculous transformation occurs. She – representing divine consciousness – transformed the pumpkin that was already there into a coach, transformed the rags that Cinderella was already wearing into a beautiful ball-gown. And that is intensely significant metaphysical information for all of us.”

And oh, how crucial is that to the workings of divination. The daily stuff of Yijing readings is just that – daily stuff. The most powerful readings tend to be about today’s relationships, dilemmas, decisions, opportunities, mess-ups… in fact, they’re pumpkin readings. We divine about what we’ve got – about real life. Divining means looking for the truth of the thing, the deeper significance in all that stuff, the bigger story being told… coaches in pumpkins.
