Well, I’m nicely immersed in all things Christmassy, from tree lights and outings and wrapping paper to the strange dearth of Brussels sprouts in the supermarkets. (Is there a national shortage? Why did nobody tell us?) I fetched my brother over on the 21st, and I’ll take him back on the 28th, so we get 3 days of Advent at home together, and three days of Christmas.
I paused for just long enough to remember that I’d actually consulted Yi, back in November, asking for a guiding principle for the Christmas break. I went to remind myself of what it said, and found this moving line:
‘Constancy, good fortune: regrets vanish.
Nothing that does not bring harvest.
With no beginning, there is completion.
Before de-husking, three days.
After de-husking, three days.
Good fortune.’
Quite. De-husking’s the day after tomorrow.
Happy Christmas. 🙂
Why you would be searching for Brussels sprouts is a complete mystery to me, as they are a noxious little veg, but when they return to your local supermarket, you might want to try this version: Crispy-Edged Roasted Brussels Sprouts http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=16470219
Surprisingly tasty. And the little “husks” they shed are indeed crunchy.
Enjoy!
Hilary, there’s plenty of Brussels in our local Sainsbury’s! I’m with Jill – can’t stand the things myself and always put my mum in charge of dealing with them.
Happy de husking!
Merry Christmas, Hilary!

dear Hilary
Wishing you all the best in year 2008
a lot of joy and heartfelt inner peace
which is anyway the root for any joy,
as Socrates said long time ago;
what are you looking for is within inside of you,
it is, it was and always will be,
that is what I Ching reminds me all the time
and yes closer am I to my heart,
clearer are the answers for me from divine I Ching
More you are kind,
brighter shines
your inner light 😉
kind regard
stoychi
Thank you! And I wish you all the same things 🙂
