Exciting new I Ching site

Go see!

Stephen Karcher has just launched a new I Ching site at greatvessel.com . Although it’s just a few days old, it’s already a banquet of Yi-related reading: the vessel contains a lot of good, rich food.

You will find…

  • Stephen’s articles and full-length papers on the Yijing
  • the ‘basics’ – not the same old ‘how to cast three coins’ stuff, but how to work with the tools Stephen offered in his Total I Ching, advice on interpreting readings, and so on.
  • articles on divination as a whole
  • good I Ching and divination links pages
  • a great (big!) bibliography
  • a blog with short nuggets from Stephen and notes of site updates from the webmaster (Kevin Sheffield)
  • and not least, the new I Ching program to download

I’ve always thought that there was a real need for an I Ching program that would have a) really good text and commentary and b) a truly user-friendly interface and c) the kinds of features that you need in real life to make and record readings. All the options available so far have been missing out on at least one of these – all three, more often than not. This one has a) text from Total I Ching plus new insights that weren’t included in the book b) a familiar Windows-style interface and c) is being designed by diviners, for diviners. So the readings journal, for instance, is easy to review by hexagram, or by category, or by ‘thread’ – ie by conversation with the I Ching on a particular issue. I have just downloaded the trial, and so far I’m decidedly impressed.

You will need a Windows computer and probably a broadband connection to get the current version (at almost 70MB to download – they have plans to create something smaller!). But even if you can’t download the program yet, the site is one to bookmark and enjoy.

  1. I already bought the PRO Version of the program. It left me really impressed. The program is truly elaborate without being too sophisticated.

And the text is simply gorgeous. As in “Total I Ching”, but even clearer and with some more “features” added to it. Especially for the “Jungian-style” I-Chinger a must-read.

A program like this was needed for long time.

  2. Yes – there’s a nice clean, intuitive feel to the interface, and the ‘thread’ function is a very nice touch. I’ll be buying my own copy, too, and using it for a while before writing a full review.
