What’s a webinar?

I just got an email asking this. Oops – very good question.

A webinar is like a seminar, but online – so with just a computer and an internet connection, you can easily talk to people from all over the globe.

On the day, I will be sending out a link and password to ticket-holders, and we will all log in to a glorified ‘chat room’. Unlike the ordinary kind, this has both text and voice chat, and room to display ‘slides’. Also, if you come you can make your own recording of the complete event – voice, text and slides together – with a couple of mouse clicks.

To participate in the text chat and listen to the interview, you just need your computer as it is. (This time, the webinar room’s compatible with both Windows and Mac.) To participate in the voice chat, you need a computer headset, ie something with headphones and a mic. These are available very cheaply all over – including from Amazon (just an example).

In fact you can watch a demo of the room here if you’d like. It’s ‘one I made earlier’ 😉 , so it finishes up talking about the last webinar on the 26th March. But it’ll give you an idea of how it works. (And it will also conveniently direct you at the end to the page where you can grab a ticket 😀 .)

  1. Couldn’t make the webinar — drat! Will you be creating downloadable files for sale like you did with Stephen Karcher?

  2. Yes – they’re in progress. I’ve re-recorded the video, edited it to even out the sound, and now I just need to export a downloadable file and do the transcript. This webinar was shorter than the last, ‘only’ 90 minutes or so, so that shouldn’t take too long.

Margaret and Stephen will probably both have ‘return visits’ over the coming months. Hope you’ll be able to come to one of these!
