Hi, I just started reading this pdf. In the introduction I read: "...... Several years ago, I undertook an artistic project, seeking to create an illustration for each of the Yi’s sixty-four hexagrams; nonrepresentational images that attempt to convey meaning through abstraction. I had expected that project to be limited to my artistic endeavors, unaware that my intuition was continuing to expand its search for connection to the Yi’s primitive spirit, which eventually yielded the new interpretive system described here. My insight images, by necessity, sought creative inspiration through an intuitive connection to the spirits of its ancient sage authors."
I haven't read it yet but was immediate, out of curiosity searching for what you meant by 'my artistic endeavors' but without luck. I'll look forward to getting it to read (and maybe the answer to this will show up there).

The artistic endeavor you are curious about is referred to in the previous sentence of the journal article:
"an illustration for each of the Yi’s sixty-four hexagrams;". I created an illustration for each of the Changes - the insight images - that is what is referred to in the article as "my artistic endeavor". The insight images led to the discovery of the Fundamental Aspects of Change, which what the article is about.
