Hilary Barrett, I Ching

Hexagram 14, line 6

Hexagram 14, line 6 was part of my reading for the week. It hasn’t been a great week, and I’ve been using my reading not only for its advice, but also as a reminder, a kind of talisman.

Waiting for the pharmacist to make up my Mum’s prescription, I went outside and found a good tree to lean against and admire. I don’t know what kind it is, but it has rough bark, heart-shaped leaves, and pink flowers shaped something like a sweet pea - not just blooming up among the fine twigs, but bursting out in exuberant clusters right from the trunk.

So I leant on the tree, looked up through the leaves and flowers at the clear, bright sky, and thought how 14.6 changes to 34, the upward-surging sap-rising Great Vigour. Great possession in the power of trees.

‘Blessed from its source in heaven,
Good fortune.
Nothing that is not fruitful.’

i’m surprised more people on this site are not discussing deliberate consultation in a more fundamental way. is not the world an arbitrary collection of arbitrary symbols? understanding reality is the core of the book of changes, no?

Yes. Though I’m not sure what you mean by ‘arbitrary’. What kind of fundamental discussion are you looking for… what questions would you ask?
